EDDM VS. Targeted Mail

What are the pros and cons of Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) and Targeted Direct Mail (TDM)

Pros of Every Door Direct Mail:

  • Wide coverage: EDDM allows you to reach every household in a specific geographic area without having to purchase a mailing list.
  • Cost-effective: EDDM is generally cheaper than targeted mailings, as you only pay for the printing and postage, and there are no additional fees for a mailing list.
  • Easy to implement: EDDM is simple to set up and doesn't require a lot of time or effort to design and distribute your mailers.

Cons of Every Door Direct Mail:

  • Limited targeting: EDDM doesn't allow for very specific targeting of demographics, interests, or behaviors, so it may not be as effective for reaching a niche audience.
  • No personalization: EDDM mailers are not personalized, so they may not feel as relevant or engaging to the recipient.
  • Competition: Because EDDM mailers are distributed to every household in a specific area, your mailer may get lost in the clutter of other mailers and advertisements.

Pros of Targeted Direct Mail:

  • Higher response rates: Targeted mailings tend to have higher response rates because they are more personalized and relevant to the recipient.
  • More specific targeting: With targeted mailings, you can choose specific demographics, interests, behaviors, or past purchase history to target your audience.
  • Increased ROI: Since targeted mailings are more likely to result in a response or conversion, the return on investment (ROI) can be higher.

Cons of Targeted Direct Mail:

  • Higher cost: Targeted mailings require the purchase of a mailing list and can be more expensive due to additional design, printing, and postage costs.
  • Time-consuming: Creating a targeted mailing can be more time-consuming than EDDM, as it requires more research and segmentation of your audience.
  • Smaller coverage: Since targeted mailings are sent to a specific list of recipients, the coverage area may be smaller than EDDM.

Ultimately, the choice between EDDM and TDM will depend on your marketing goals, budget, and target audience. EDDM may be a good choice for broad geographic coverage and cost-effectiveness, while TDM may be better for reaching a specific niche audience and achieving higher response rates.
